If you are local please walk to the masjid for Eid Namaz. Others should share a car so we can make best use of our limited parking facilities without disturbing our neighbours.
You should follow the sunnah and walk to the Masjid for Eid while reciting the takbir in a louder voice :
“Allahu-Akbar, Allahu-Akbar. La ila-ha ill-lal-lahu. Allahu-Akbar, Allahu-Akbar. Wa-lilahill hamd.”
You should return home by a different route.
Eid Mubarak to all from everyone at Jamia Masjid Swafia !!
Swafia Mosque is inviting everyone in the community to our open day. You may be religious or follow no religion, all are welcome to come and look around the mosque and ask questions about Islam. You can go on a short tour to see some of the features of the mosque. It will be a general Fun Day of other activities and stalls to raise funds for a very worthy cause.
Maybe you are curious about what goes on inside a mosque. How do Muslims pray ? Why does the mosque have a dome or minarets ? What do Muslim kids learn in the madrassa ? Why do Muslims fast ? What do Muslims say about Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) ? Now is your chance to get your questions answered directly by local Muslims in the first Mosque Open Day in Wakefield.
It will also be a general Fun Day with a bouncy castle for children, henna tattoos, face painting, and food stalls. Other organisations will have information stands. We’re hoping it’s going to be a nice sunny day so you will be able to make use of the ice cream van.
You could even win some great prizes by taking part in our Tombola draw, as well as contributing towards a great cause, Wakefield Hospice. Some of the proceeds from stalls as well as general donations will go towards Wakefield Hospice. Help us to improve our total from the previous collection for the Hospice, which raised a total of £2005.69 from all the Wakefield mosques in June. Some of the other mosques will be making collections again at Friday prayers. We hope those attending the Open Day will also generously contribute towards the collection.
We will also be giving a free packed briyiani box to those who attend though the we will be trying to prioritise this for homeless people.
Though the day is being hosted at Swafia Mosque we have the help and support from other mosques in putting this day on as Wakefield Mosques Community Open Day.
Some details on our poster below.
Why we are doing it ?
After the recent tragic events in Manchester, London Bridge and Finsbury Park it is more important than ever that we work hard to bring all the community together. Whilst there are people who wish to promote hate and division for their own despicable reasons, we know we are stronger when we are united. We face many challenges in our country that we can overcome successfully by working together. We would like to start building bridges with the whole community locally through direct contacts. A small part of this is such an Open Day in increasing understanding between the different communities.
When and Where will it be ?
It will be held between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm on Saturday, 5th August 2017. Entry is free and you are welcome at any time during these times. It will be held at Swafia Mosque which is on Park Hill Lane off Park Lodge Lane, behind the Ambulance and Fire Stations on Brunswick Street on the edge of Eastmoor in Wakefield. Please use the postcode WF1 4NJ in your Tom Tom sat nav or navigation app.
