Start of Ramadan 1439 AH / 2018

Ramadan Mubarak to all from everyone at Jamia Masjid Swafia.

It has been confirmed that  Ramadan started after sunset on the evening of Wednesday 16th May, 2018.  The first fast is on Thursday 17th of May with the first Travhee prayers (namaz/salah) being offered on Wednesday night.

Two Isha / Travhee Jamaats at Jamia Masjid Swafia

As in previous years we will offer two jamaats for the convenience of everybody in Wakefield.

First Jamaat at 11:00 pm with the complete recitation of the Quran-e-Pak during Ramadan

Second Jamaat at 12:30 am with shorter surahs for those who can’t attend the main jamaat due to work, will finish with plenty of time for you to eat before Sehri.

There will be a short Quranic or Islamic talk after the main Travhee jamaat highlighting some of the topics that were recited.  Please remind those who can’t attend the jamaat that they can still benefit from this talk as it is broadcast live on Swafia Azaan Radio.  (Contact the masjid if you need a radio).

Wakefield Ramadan Timetable

You can collect a printed copy of the timetable from the masjid that details all the times for namaz including jamaat at the mosque, and fasting times for Wakefield.

We have a larger A3 poster you can put on the wall and a smaller A6 card one for your pocket.

Download and print  your own copy or save to your desktop or wallpaper on your mobile.

Gain The Benefits of Ramdaan

We should work hard to gain the great benefits of Ramdan where Nafli prayers have the value of Fard prayers in normal times and Fard prayers have 70 times the value from other times. We should ask for forgiveness for ourselves and everybody else.  We should do dhikr and give charity and read and try to understand the Quran-e-Pak to gain the benefits of this blessed month.

We should make a special effort to offer all our namaz with the jamaat at the mosque.

Jamia Masjid Swafia Ramadan 1439/2018 Timetable for Wakefield

Start to prepare for the holy month by collecting your Ramadan 1439 timetable from the mosque after Friday Jumma prayers on 11th of May 2018.  This timetable will detail the Sehri and Ifatri times for fasting as well as Jamia Masjid Swafia Jamaat times for prayers, that apply for Wakefield and surrounding areas. If you can’t attend Jumma prayers you can off course collect the timetable at any time afterwards.

You can collect a large A3 poster for your wall and a small pocket sized A6 one to keep with you at all times.  In this way you can try to gain the maximum benefits of this blessed month by offering as many namaz/prayers with the jamaat at the masjid.  You can download and print at home or save to your PC or mobile.

It is very likely that Ramadan will start on Thursday 17th of May with our first Isha/Travhee prayers at 11:00 pm the night before on Wednesday.   To confirm the start of Ramadan please listen to your Swafia Azaan Radio for an announcement at about Maghrib time on Wednesday 16th May.  We will also try to make the announcement on this web site, or send a notification in the MyMosque app, or with a message on our Twitter feed at

There will be a short Islamic Talk (usually covering topics from the Quran) after the main Travhee prayers.  This will be broadcast live on Swafia Azaan Radio to benefit those listening at home. Please contact the mosque if you need a radio.

Second Isha / Travhee Jamaat

As in previous years Jamia Masjid Swafia will facilitate a second shorter jamaat for Isha / Travhee for those people who can’t make it to the main one. This will start at 12:30 am and finish leaving you with enough time before Sehri.
